I have a 64BIT OpenSuSE server I'm looking to migrate over to Ubuntu.Dell 7500 Workstation with Intel E5 Xeon processor64GB of RAM and 20TB of dataMySQL database to migrate over with it.First off before going any further, I noticed the only architecture for 64bit is AMD 64, so does this mean having a Dell server based on Intel, I'm dead in the water as is? If so I can just go towards SME Server, but I would rather try Ubuntu as it's a bit unique on it's own/to try something different.Or is there something unique about the 32bit version that will allow it to use the full 64GB of RAM? This is a domain controller that will also virtualize multiple other servers and other functions. Basically a ...

Greetings,I recently built my first 16.04 server. It has 2 1TB drives in a RAID 1 for /, Boot, Swap, and Primary Data Storage. The boot partitions on both drives is marked as bootable. It has another RAID 1 of 1TB drives for archive data storage.Discoecting any one drive prevents successful boot and drops to initramfs.Ruing dpkg-reconfigure mdadm does not ask about boot degraded. I have tried suggestions on http://askubuntu.com/questions/78995...ot-in-16-04lts without success.I'm hoping someone can assist with setting up both raids to boot degraded as neither RAID will boot but drops into initramfs. Thanks in advance,LeonAdditional detail in case it matters:/proc/mdstat:Personalities : [raid1] ...

So I have an HP Mini netbook that was previously used as my main laptop. I have since upgraded to a better system, but my need for it retued as my old server, a Sony VAIO laptop, experienced a hard drive failure. It was old anyways so I decided to use the netbook instead. It didn't have a CD drive so I had to put the ISO for Unbuntu Server (32-Bit) on a flash drive. The installation succeeded, but when it came time to restart to boot for the first time, the laptop would get to the HP splash screen but would hang at this screen. Keyboard input didn't help either. Couldn't change boot settings and couldn't enter BIOS. I took it apart and hooked up the HDD to my desktop computer. The drive spun...

Hi All,since there are media providers blocking data center IPs am no longer able to enjoy some services. I was a little bit upset, but then this idea hit me:I am still an owner of a VPS which I used as a VPN-Server/Gateway using PPTP. The idea is to set up Raspberry Pi which will be placed in a friends house and act like a gateway. (my friend has unfortunately a dynamic IP and does not agree to use any DynDNS services) I was thinking about creating a virtual adapter which will coect to my VPN-Server with a static IP on this Interface. The VPN Server will route the traffic from other clients through the Raspberry Pi at my friends house.Has anyone tried this yet? Would you recommend another s...

So I consider myself if not an uber computer geek at least a "power user", and tried to keep my dual boot setup of Windows 10 and Ubuntu 16.04 for as long as I could. I need Windows currently because of some Windows-only software I need for my classes (hopefully won't need these ever again after I graduate). I was really fed up with Windows 10 (don't like all the telemetry crap, don't use the Windows app store, Cortana, forced updates, confusing settings options, interface in general). My last straw was the other night I had some school documents open and unsaved, and Windows decided to just restart on its own to apply some updates. So I backed everything up, completely wiped Windows 10, did ...

Another forum member posted a thread about TPM passthrough and its been something I've been meaning to do for a while. Qemu 2.5 has a bug that prevents a Windows guest from loading the TPM driver, this is patched from qemu 2.6 onwards so I've got qemu 2.6.1 in my build chain and am ruing the guest on the cmd line. Windows now reports my TPM in Device Manager under Security Devices but the Bitlocker app says no compatible TPM can be found :-/ The TPM is most definitely bitlocker compatible as if I boot Win10 on the same bare metal then everything works so this is a virt issue somewhere, and I'd hazard a guess to say its Windows guest specific as I believe passing the same device through to a ...

I want to move my LVM based VMs from my old KVM server to my new KVM server. What is "the way"?I have:KVM ruing on Ubuntu 12.04 - old systemwith 5 VMs on LVM partition at /dev/sd3/vgroup/all references to VMs in /dev/sd3/vgroup/ are actually symlinks to ../dm-1-5KVM ruing on Ubuntu 16.04 - new systemwith 1 vm, deb8, as a testit also has the same structure /dev/sd4/vgroup/deb8deb8 is a link to ../dm-0a backup script that weekly stops each vm on old system and dd to a gzipped copyIf I unzip a copy of my backed-up vm on the new KVM box, and dd it to /dev/vgroup/testdata it copies the vm file and does not create the magic link to /dev/vgroup/testdata (which, I assume, should link to ../dm-1).
