I installed Ubuntu 16.04.1 about a week ago on a partition from my Windows 10 OS. Since then, I have been able to successfully use Grub to choose either windows or Ubuntu to boot. Just now, however, I restarted and the Grub menu didn't appear. The bios menu also did not appear. It then booted straight into Ubuntu. This happened after I tried to hard restart with the power button and the prompt appeared suggesting that I save files first. My files were all saved, but I exited out and saved them all anyways, and then shut down just from the actual software option. Settings seem to have changed as well. For example, my desktop is now stuck at 1024x768, while before I was at 1920x1080. The only other option is 800x600. This was the case before I installed drivers for my graphics card. Also, when I signed into gmail, it recognized me as logging in on a new computer, even though I have logged in on this before. I am an English speaker who often writes in Japanese to friends, etc. I am finding that my Lubuntu 16.04.1 LTS install has a weird bug that's frustrating the hell out of me: it doesn't seem to remember my switching the input method from the default, "none," to fcixt or ibus. Nearly all the instructions I can find online say "Go to Preferences, Language Support, and choose either ibus or fcixt, logout, then log back in."But when I do that, the same "none" is back, always preselected. Any settings I change require relogging in...which means they vanish.I can see the nice input window sitting there. But it just doesn't DO anything...I hit "cntl-space" and it appears or disappears, but never allows me the option to write anything but English/romaji.Anyone know what's causing this?Thank you! I have a 64BIT OpenSuSE server I'm looking to migrate over to Ubuntu.Dell 7500 Workstation with Intel E5 Xeon processor64GB of RAM and 20TB of dataMySQL database to migrate over with it.First off before going any further, I noticed the only architecture for 64bit is AMD 64, so does this mean having a Dell server based on Intel, I'm dead in the water as is? If so I can just go towards SME Server, but I would rather try Ubuntu as it's a bit unique on it's own/to try something different.Or is there something unique about the 32bit version that will allow it to use the full 64GB of RAM? This is a domain controller that will also virtualize multiple other servers and other functions. Greetings,I recently built my first 16.04 server. It has 2 1TB drives in a RAID 1 for /, Boot, Swap, and Primary Data Storage.The boot partitions on both drives is marked as bootable.It has another RAID 1 of 1TB drives for archive data storage.Disconnecting any one drive prevents successful boot and drops to initramfs.Running dpkg-reconfigure mdadm does not ask about boot degraded. So the xorg issue with the pointer disappearing has been solved and that is absolutely great!However, I still seem to have a problem with light locker. After suspend, locking the screen or logging out, I see my wallpaper for a second or so, then there is a glitch and tus to the default light blue background. When I change the user to Guest and then back to my account, my wallpaper appears and stays for good.Any ideas as to what might be causing this and/or how to fix it? Under Ubuntu 14.04 this email app (ver 3.10.4) will not configure its IMAP settings correctly.When setting up IMAP - via Edit/Preferences/Mail Accounts/"accountname settings"/Receiving Mail/Configuration/... When setting the server port value. My ISP requirements are for port 993. This is selectable. BUT it will not save that value.Attempts to check/refresh the server generate error message: "TCP connection reset by peer". Connection fails - no mail headers are transferred.Upon retuing to this dialogue box the (default) port value remains at 143. Multiple attempts made - not successful at getting the 993 value to stick.Attempted to include ":993" at the end of the "serveame" but this compounds the error by referencing the server as "serveame:993:993".Until I can resolve this conce my transition to Evolution is stuck.[ Does that make me a Darwinist "transition to Evolution". I am at my wits end trying to set up RAID 1 for my OS devices. I feel like I have tried everything but I always get some sort of failure back. Here's what I have done so far that has gotten me the furthest:Both devices:2GB /boot (yes it's big but I really don't care)42GB /12GB swapThat is done on both devices (side note: setting the boot flag never works, it always remains in the off position)Next, I go to configure software RAID and I set RAID 1, 2 disks, 0 spares and choose the partitions accordingly. Once finished, I have my 3 RAID devices, my first one I set to /boot, second is / and third is swap. I get down to the point where it fails to install GRUB on the second disk. I have also tried setting the 2GB volume I have to reserved BIOS boot and either setting the RAID device to /boot or leaving it alone and it still fails with installing GRUB. So I have an HP Mini netbook that was previously used as my main laptop. I have since upgraded to a better system, but my need for it retued as my old server, a Sony VAIO laptop, experienced a hard drive failure. It was old anyways so I decided to use the netbook instead. It didn't have a CD drive so I had to put the ISO for Unbuntu Server (32-Bit) on a flash drive. The installation succeeded, but when it came time to restart to boot for the first time, the laptop would get to the HP splash screen but would hang at this screen. Keyboard input didn't help either. Couldn't change boot settings and couldn't enter BIOS. I took it apart and hooked up the HDD to my desktop computer. The drive spun up but it wasn't detected by Windows. Also the netbook experienced the same issue even without its hard drive. Please help me resolve this issue as I need a server to run my website. Thanks!
