I have a 64BIT OpenSuSE server I'm looking to migrate over to Ubuntu.Dell 7500 Workstation with Intel E5 Xeon processor64GB of RAM and 20TB of dataMySQL database to migrate over with it.First off before going any further, I noticed the only architecture for 64bit is AMD 64, so does this mean having a Dell server based on Intel, I'm dead in the water as is? If so I can just go towards SME Server, but I would rather try Ubuntu as it's a bit unique on it's own/to try something different.Or is there something unique about the 32bit version that will allow it to use the full 64GB of RAM? This is a domain controller that will also virtualize multiple other servers and other functions. Basically a ...

Hi all,Using the info in the thread: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2274467I followed the instructions verbatim, and while I can access HBONow with FF, when I click "Play", it complains that the Flash plugin is outdated, at least version 17 is required.I don't think there's a version command for Pipelight's individual plugins, but Pipelight's Flash license command refers to version 11. Code: $ pipelight-plugin --show-license flash[*] Adobe Flash Player By continuing the installation you agree that you've read and accepted the ADOBE Personal Computer Software License Agreement: http://wwwimages.adobe.com/www.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/legal/licenses-t...

Problems with "Ralink RT3290LE 802.11bgn 1x1 Wifi and Bluetooth 4.0 Combo Adapter" and ubuntu 16.04:1- If the wifi card is tued on when you order shutdown of the system (from terminal, shutdown button, etc.), the result is always a restart. To shutdown the laptop, one must disable previously the wifi card.2- Low sensitivity to wifi signal, sometimes losing coection intermittently. In my case, at 3 meters from the router, without obstacles in between, signal strength ranges from only 51 to 63%. Speed tests show really lower speed, specially for download (I compared this card with an usb wifi dongle)3- Sometimes the wifi card loses the coection and remains deactivated, no matter what you do; i...

As the title says my etheet keeps discoecting roughly 5 mins after plugging in the etheet cable. If I plug it out and back in again it works perfectly for another 5 mins. I have a USB to LAN coection when I use that I have no coections whatsoever, it only happens when I plug the etheet cable into the on board etheet port on my laptop. The coection isn't loose and the wire isn't damaged in any way. Any ideas what's causing this? I read somewhere TLP was causing LAN issues and so I uninstalled TLP yet the issue is still their. grateful for any help received on the matter. Here is the output of lspci: Code: 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 3rd Gen Core processor DRAM Controller (rev 09) ...

Hello everybody, (I'm new in ubuntuforums, sorry for any mistakes)I've installed Ubuntu Gnome, but keep ruing into difficulties conceing my Wi-Fi.After I start up my laptop, the Wi-Fi is tued off. I can tu my Wi-Fi on by using 'Select Network' or 'Wi-Fi Settings', but every time the Wi-Fi is almost directly tued off (within one or three seconds). On one occasion I could briefly see my router, before the Wi-Fi was tued off once again. So I consider myself if not an uber computer geek at least a "power user", and tried to keep my dual boot setup of Windows 10 and Ubuntu 16.04 for as long as I could. I need Windows currently because of some Windows-only software I need for my classes (hopefully won't need these ever again after I graduate). I was really fed up with Windows 10 (don't like all the telemetry crap, don't use the Windows app store, Cortana, forced updates, confusing settings options, interface in general). My last straw was the other night I had some school documents open and unsaved, and Windows decided to just restart on its own to apply some updates. So I backed everything up, completely wiped Windows 10, did ...

Another forum member posted a thread about TPM passthrough and its been something I've been meaning to do for a while. Qemu 2.5 has a bug that prevents a Windows guest from loading the TPM driver, this is patched from qemu 2.6 onwards so I've got qemu 2.6.1 in my build chain and am ruing the guest on the cmd line. Windows now reports my TPM in Device Manager under Security Devices but the Bitlocker app says no compatible TPM can be found :-/ The TPM is most definitely bitlocker compatible as if I boot Win10 on the same bare metal then everything works so this is a virt issue somewhere, and I'd hazard a guess to say its Windows guest specific as I believe passing the same device through to a ...

Hi,I'm trying to do-release-upgrade from my 14.04.5 LTS box to 16.04 LTS, but do-release-upgrade tells me that either I have unofficial packages or I'm trying to upgrade from an outdated version, neither of which seems to be true. I've installed Windows 10 and Ubuntu 16.04 (also tried Xubuntu 16.04/14.04) on my brand new laptop i5 6200u/8gb/gt940m/240gb. I have problem with ubuntu performance, which doesn't occur on windows, where everything i've tried works just fine. On ubuntu I feel lagging when just typing - e. g. in codeblocks or in chromium. In gtkperf i receive very different results - once it's like 2,5s and next time 20-30s (!).I tried reinstalling ubuntu couple of times, with swap and without it. Also on empty ssd - with no effect at all. Memtest - no errors, ssd benchmarks - fine, cpu benchmarks - common results (benchmarking under windows).I wonder if someone can tell me what causes my problems - thanks in ...

I want to move my LVM based VMs from my old KVM server to my new KVM server. What is "the way"?I have:KVM ruing on Ubuntu 12.04 - old systemwith 5 VMs on LVM partition at /dev/sd3/vgroup/all references to VMs in /dev/sd3/vgroup/ are actually symlinks to ../dm-1-5KVM ruing on Ubuntu 16.04 - new systemwith 1 vm, deb8, as a testit also has the same structure /dev/sd4/vgroup/deb8deb8 is a link to ../dm-0a backup script that weekly stops each vm on old system and dd to a gzipped copyIf I unzip a copy of my backed-up vm on the new KVM box, and dd it to /dev/vgroup/testdata it copies the vm file and does not create the magic link to /dev/vgroup/testdata (which, I assume, should link to ../dm-1). Th...
