Somehow -- I think as an artifact or by-product of my having installed the GNU IceCat web browser -- whenever I drop into the virtual shell, using the Ctrl-Alt-F1 command, what I see displayed at the top of the black screen is:Trisquel GNU/Linux 6.0.1 jbox tty1However, I am not ruing or using Trisquel in any way as far as I'm aware of, and I've deleted everything I could find with that name. What it should say is:Ubuntu 16.04 LTS jbox tty1(or, maybe, "Ubuntu Mate 16.04 LTS jbox tty1").Would anyone know:(a) How it got there, but more importantly,(b) How I should I get rid of it and replace it with the correct name of the OS I'm actually ruing?I'd also like to just make sure there's nothing el...

Friends,I'm new to ubuntu and my ubuntu wireless is very unstable. About 10% of the whole time coection is successful, while the other majority isn't. It seemed to be the driver problem and I tried modprobe command which didn't work. Here is the information of my wireless.Any suggestion? So I have an HP Mini netbook that was previously used as my main laptop. I have since upgraded to a better system, but my need for it retued as my old server, a Sony VAIO laptop, experienced a hard drive failure. It was old anyways so I decided to use the netbook instead. It didn't have a CD drive so I had to put the ISO for Unbuntu Server (32-Bit) on a flash drive. The installation succeeded, but when it came time to restart to boot for the first time, the laptop would get to the HP splash screen but would hang at this screen. Keyboard input didn't help either. Couldn't change boot settings and couldn't enter BIOS. I took it apart and hooked up the HDD to my desktop computer. The drive spun...

Hi! I use Ubuntu 16.04 (Unity) on my Dell Inspiron-20-Model-3043 (touch screen). My problem is that the lock screen (ctrl + alt + L) changed to the old style like the one in Ubuntu 10.10, and I don't know why exactly, I don't remember have done anything in particular.maybe it changed after the installation of Unity 8 mir but I didn't notice it until 3 days later so I'm not sure. Something curious is that the login screen works perfectlyThese are the commands I tried until now:sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdmsudo service lightdm restartsudo lightdmBut nothing works, and actually I'm not sure if LightDM controls also the lock screen or only the login screen Let's block ads! بخوانید...

So I installed "Calibre" -- the epub reader -- on my Xenial drive and noticed right away that the icons on my top-panel & my desktop were suddenly all-white with a red "X" on them.I re-booted, and the login screen was black (background image totally not there), but the useame & password boxes still appeared, so at least I could log in.The second I was logged in, although I could see that my startup programs had loaded, instantly the entire screen on both my monitors did this whole BLINK-BLINK-BLINK-BLINK thing and just kept up like that. So I can't use my 16.04 system and am posting this from my 14.04 drive.I installed Calibre according to the instructions on its download page here. ...

I booted into ubuntu 14.04, which I was happy with, and it prompted me to upgrade to 16.04. It was late and I didn't read everything properly, and in the process it updated some items like phpmyadmin, php, and mysql that I had installed for a local development web server. Unfortunately, that's caused major issues & now nothing works. I don't want to run newer versions as I know the web application I was using locally doesn't work on newer versions. Is there a way to roll back to 14.04 with the previous versions of everything I had? Let's block ads! بخوانید...

I had Mythbuntu 14.04 ruing on this machine, but it was getting flaky: some recordings OK, some zero-length, some excessively large and presumably corrupt that would crash the frontend when I tried to play them. I'd applied the various updates that were offered, but they did not cure the problem. Then a day or two ago I was offered the update to 16.04, but that was a disaster, so I saved my recordings to an exteal drive and ran mythconverg_backup.pl and copied the resulting files to the exteal drive as well. Then I tried installing 14.04.5 from scratch but the installation failed -- something involving xfsettingsd -- so I installed 14.04.2. I can watch live TV, but there is no longer a Progr...

Hello, everyone.I know what you're thinking, and it's not that I was trying to install or play anything in DOSBox through Wine. I bought a game on GOG and tried to install it through PlayOnLinux so I can copy the files and play them in the native DOSBox. To be more specific, the game is Redguard, from Bethesda. So the issue I have is that I installed the game, and upon launching it (to see why this game had DOSBox settings and whatnot, but a Windows launcher) DOSBox (in Wine) froze up, and upon force-closing it my screen resolution was screwed up. I am looking for any answer that doesn't lead to "reinstall Ubuntu" because I finally have a nice assortment of Windows games set up just right to ...

I have installed Lubuntu 16.04 and can not install my Epson printer L355, basically I tried two ways:1. Downloaded from epson site and installed the package: epson-inkjet-printer-201207w_1.0.0-1lsb3.2_i386.deb. Apparently it installed fine but when opening "Printers" menu although it appears "coected to localhost" there is a message "there are not printers configured yet"2. Using the terminal I have installed "cups-2.2rc1" program. Then tried the browser to go to "http://localhost:613" and the answer was: "can not coect"Two more details: using the terminal installed the LSB package. And it is not a printer issue, in fact I can scan without problem with "Simple Scan"Greetings and thanks Let's...

I just noticed that my Ubuntu Mate 16.04 distro has some issues with coection, i can coect to my house WiFi without any problem at all, however when i use my school's WiFi, everything worked fine the first day but suddenly both access points seem to be unreachable, i say this because when i try to coect to any of them either it keeps asking for the WiFi password or it simply doesn't coect, is there any way to fix this? i've tried to forget both networks and no better results and my phone can coect to School WiFi without problems too, my only option here is to share coection via Usb , im using private drivers for a Broadcom Corporation BCM43142 802.11b/g/n [14e4:4365] (rev 01) WiFi card, but ...

QUESTION:How can I fix my Grub2 installation so that I can boot? Is there anything obvious in http://paste.ubuntu.com/23060616/ that suggests the problem?SITUATION:I am trying to install Ubuntu 14.04.04 from a "live CD" USB flash drive to a Dell Inspiron 14z but it is failing to install Grub correctly so I can not boot the laptop. Ubuntu 14.04 was previously installed to the laptop and I do not want to wipe the home drive partition so I am using the "Something else" installation type option to manually configure the mounting and partitionsDisk configuration: /dev/sda - a 500gb hard drive/dev/sda1 - is ~60gb fat32 - I haven't touched this, I think it's Dell's "restore Windows" partition /dev/...

If you look near the top of every page, there is a link that says, “Please read before SSO login” which leads to this sticky – the SSO registration guide. I have to assume you didn’t (read it, that is) because it tells you about using the correct email in Ubuntu One. You used a different email in Ubuntu One from the one you used to create the andalou account. The sticky also tells you about why and when useames are appended with a number. Not finding a match for the email, and with a pre-existing andalou account, the system created andalou2.We can help you get back to the andalou account, but please read this sticky first: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2164369 Let's block ads! بخ...
