So, let me preface this by stating that I have looked around various forums, including this one, and have not found a viable solution to my issue. The issue is this: I have Ubuntu 16.04 installed on my laptop and where I work has a Xerox Workcentre 7855 with accounting enabled. While I thought I could add whatever drivers and then modify the ppd file, I continually received error codes on whatever the output was.I decided then to try to the Xerox drivers listed on their site. Easy to install. Discovered my device, set up the necessary information via their print manager (sudo xerxprtmgr), but still nothing.Has anyone else had experience with setting up one of these Workcentres successfully us...

Almost all security is a false sense of security. Not even the Pentagon can keep everyone out of their business.I know of no arrangement where a logged-in user who opens malware (inadvertently or not) is protected whether the home directory is encrypted or not. If the malware is ruing under the logged-in user's account, then the data is effectively not encrypted, because the encryption layer is transparent after the key is enabled. This is true for any operating system.Let's block ads! بخوانید...

I'm a graphics designer and artist and I know jack about Gimp. I'm leaing, but in the mean time I really need access to Photoshop CC. I'd rather not go back to Windows if I can help it.I have it installed via PlayLinux, but there are no fonts on anything except the menu's. I also tried installing it with no fonts (a suggestion from another post), and it did not help.I'm plaing on converting to linux entirely, but this is my one issue that for years has stopped me. VM's don't work because there's no hardware acceleration, something I need.Would love some help figuring this out. Let's block ads! بخوانید...

Hello all! I am new to this and am hoping to get some help if possible. I have downloaded the 32 bit version of Ubuntu 15.04 and have installed it on my Dell PowerEdge 2650. The system is set up with 4 hard drives, one as the boot drive and the other 4 as RAID. The install seems to go perfectly, but once the system requires reboot, the screen always goes blank and my monitor says "Input Not Supported". The graphics is ruing from the on board controller.I have tried to hold the Left Shift Key, Right Shift Key, ESC, Arrow Down, CTRL+Alt+F1 and still caot access the GRUB screen I keep reading about. I can see the words "Starting GRUB" or something like that right before the screen goes blank. I...

I have a headless home server (Ubuntu 16.04.1) which I monitor from my desktop with gkrellm. Occasionally, I notice that the CPU utilisation on the server spikes for between 10 and 50 seconds, but by the time I've logged in and started htop, utilisation has dropped again to normal, so I have installed gkrelltopd on the server, and gkrelltop on the client.I start the client with gkrellm -s <server.fq.dn>I have the line "plugin-enable gkrelltopd" in my server config /etc/gkrellmd.confWhen I enable the gkrelltop plugin in the client, I momentarily see server processes (openvpn, logitech media server) in the krell, but then gkrellm crashes with the following message: Code: gkrellm segmen...

I've looked around a little on this subject and it seems there are many options. I guess I am looking for some help in narrowing down a path to take so I can remote into my Ubuntu box from my Windows box.One person told me to get PuTTY and that was all they said. I think I've seen PuTTY uses SSH.Will PuTTY allow me to remote into my Ubuntu machine the same way Windows remote desktop lets you remote into other Windows machines?Or is PuTTY only command line? How does PuTTY work and what can I do with it?Then I saw an article that suggested Remmina.Remmina seemed like it might be more like Windows built in remote desktop.Does anyone have experience with Remmina? Thanks! I recently purchased an ASUS USB-N13 Wi-fi adapter for my desktop ruing Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty 64x. I installed the driver using the instructions given in this post http://askubuntu.com/questions/16862...reless-adapter downloading the correct Linux driver from Realtek and also installed the fixes suggested in this post http://askubuntu.com/questions/45675...h-ubuntu-14-04.When plugged in, my network is recognised,http://www.nodular-prurigo.org.uk/images/network1.jpegbut I caot coect any program (Firefox, Chrome, Filezilla etc.) to the inteet. Alright, so they're ALL the wrong forum for this, but I'm hoping y'all can give me some help.I wrote some programs to do some semi-hacky things against some proprietary hardware under 14.04 by ruing as root and mmap'ing the resource0 file under /sys/devices/... . Ugly, but it worked, and it saved having to actually write a keel driver when all I wanted to do was read a couple sporadic registers.strace verifies that under 14.04 I call Code: open("resource0", O_RDONLY) = 3 fstat(3, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0600, st_size=16384, ...}) = 0 mmap(NULL, 16384, PROT_READ, MAP_SHARED, 3, 0) = 0x7fa78bce5000 On 16.04, though Code: open("resource0", O_RDONLY) = 3 fstat(3, {st_mode=S_...
