I am an English speaker who often writes in Japanese to friends, etc. I am finding that my Lubuntu 16.04.1 LTS install has a weird bug that's frustrating the hell out of me: it doesn't seem to remember my switching the input method from the default, "none," to fcixt or ibus. Nearly all the instructions I can find online say "Go to Preferences, Language Support, and choose either ibus or fcixt, logout, then log back in."But when I do that, the same "none" is back, always preselected. Any settings I change require relogging in...which means they vanish.I can see the nice input window sitting there. But it just doesn't DO anything...I hit "cntl-space" and it appears or disappears, but never all...

I'm often ruing a simultaneous VNC window alongside a regular native X session. From time to time, and with no rhyme or reason that I can detect, my X window session hangs, producing a black screen. The keyboard isn't frozen (I can see the caps-lock go on), but hitting Alt-F4 or Cntl-Alt-F4 doesn't bring me to a terminal.I'm talking about weeks or months...it's not common! The odd thing is that my VNC session still is fine, and I can access everything fine. But to get back to a working X session, I've had to always close everything out and hard power down the computer. Then reboot. Is there a way to just type something via the command line that will keep the VNC session going and just refresh ...

Hello Members!I preferred installing Ubuntu(latest version) alongside Windows 8. Installation went through successfully but the System-Restart(as per the last prompt) has left me with the Windows Installation only, & Ubuntu is visible nowhere!I remember seeing message during this Reboot which said--"Press any Key to skip Disk checking"....& then it went on to repair my Recovery Drive to 100%!No trace of Ubuntu's installation or the Boot-menu (offering the choice b/w Windows & Ubuntu) are visible!?However, Yes, Ubuntu's installation has indeed usurped my Free-Disk space to the tune of 250 GB, & as a consequence---Windows partition can be seen as reduced significantly!Kindly he...

I had install lubuntu into an old laptop and all works fine.Happens that i want to add Lumina Desktop as i think it is what LXDE should have been, and, given that the BSD developers only offers it for 64 bit systems, i had to pull the sources and the dependences and build it in my own.The Lumina website, at https://lumina-desktop.org/get-lumina/?lang=en , tells this:"Building Lumina from source on Debian/Ubuntu/Linux MintTo build the Lumian desktop from source code on any members of the Debian, Ubuntu or Linux Mint distribution (or their derivative distributions) please perform the following steps. Please note that older versions of Ubuntu (14.04 and earlier) do not ship with mode versions of...

Hallo Everyone,I am trying to install a Canon Pixma MG5750 for a friend and have discovered a strange thing ...We both have identical installations of Lubuntu (I installed for him) but my installation contains the driver for this printer but his does not.My suspicion is that, at some time, I have installed a bundle of "extra printers".Does such a thing exist? Maybe available via Synaptic?Any tips would be a great help because Canon doesn't seem to support Linux with this printer (or am I wrong?)Many thanks,Alan Let's block ads! بخوانید...

Hello allI have just started work in an organisation which uses an intranet accessed by wifi. Staff provide their own laptops and mine uses lubuntu.I can access most things within the system but there is an smb:// shared network which I caot coect to. I have tried various things (ie, posting the smb address in file manager and in nautilus, using the Coect to Server option within file manager) and have had no luck. Most of these options say that the coection has been rejected, sometimes that the address was not found. The IT dept have had a look but aren't familiar with lubuntu. Can anyone suggest what I could try? Is it possible that the system here is rejecting my coection because it doesn't...

Came back to linux because I'm tired of Windows. Ruing into a few issues however. I have a Dell Inspiron 7348, which dell sells with Ubuntu.First, my mouse icons disspears after I recover from sleep. I read this may have something to do with a gnome daemon, I checked and didn't see it. Any idea's here?I have the proprietary Intel video drivers installed, at least I think I do.Also, something I'm not used too, is the jumping. It's so sensitive! I caot find way to reduce the, or even configure the sensitivity, or some sort of palm detection.Lastly, at least so far is the keyboard. Non of my built-in keys like volume etc work. Is there a way to enable them? I would prefer to have the FN key set...

Hello.Am a Linux novice. Performed an on-line update from 14.04 to 16.04 on my laptop which is an Asus Ultrabook. It has an 1T SSD and is dual-boot with Windows 8.1 via grub. Have done the same upgrade on my Intel i7 desktop without issue. It however DOES NOT have an SSD.During boot, there are errors reported that I caot decipher and, I believe, has to do with Ubuntu recognizing my SSD (sd9?). It is a Corsair SSD. During boot it performs some sort of disk diag that runs for 1m 50s? Sometimes it won't boot at all and I have to do the three-finger-salute (control-alt-delete).Have a copy of my dmsg file and have attached it... (after I looked up where to find it)Again. It's an Asus Ultrabook S5...

I have installed Lubuntu 16.04 and can not install my Epson printer L355, basically I tried two ways:1. Downloaded from epson site and installed the package: epson-inkjet-printer-201207w_1.0.0-1lsb3.2_i386.deb. Apparently it installed fine but when opening "Printers" menu although it appears "coected to localhost" there is a message "there are not printers configured yet"2. Using the terminal I have installed "cups-2.2rc1" program. Then tried the browser to go to "http://localhost:613" and the answer was: "can not coect"Two more details: using the terminal installed the LSB package. And it is not a printer issue, in fact I can scan without problem with "Simple Scan"Greetings and thanks Let's...

Hello there, I work in a lab with 13 PCs, 12 of them ruing Lubuntu and the last one ruing Ubuntu. Recently I dicided to update these systems so I did update 2 of them (the Ubuntu and one of the Lubuntu, I've used apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade). Since then the Lubuntu and the Ubuntu that I have updated are freezing randomly (the PC freezes and I have to restart it using the power button of the case), I can't find any particular reason that would lead these PCs to freeze, they have 4GBs of RAM (Lubuntu) and 8GBs of RAM (Ubuntu) and run all the time with more than 2,5GB free (the Lubuntu run most of times with over than 80% of CPU utilization, though). These two PCs with problems run ...

There are Linux apps to convert, never used them. But the issue really is that Windows only boots in BIOS boot mode from MBR partitioned drives. And Windows only boots in UEFI mode from gpt partitioned drives. (and you need newer UEFI hardware).Ubuntu can boot from gpt with either BIOS or UEFI but with BIOS you must have a 1 or 2MB unformatted partition with the bios_grub flag for BIOS boot or a FAT32 formatted partition as the ESP - efi system partition.Probably best to fully backup and reinstall if you have newer UEFI hardware.I started converting to gpt years ago when I still had XP. But XP was on MBR drive with Ubuntu on gpt drive.Converting to or from GPThttp://www.rodsbooks.com/gdisk/mbr...

G'day,I have used LXLE 14.04 for a year or so with no problems and installed 16.04 as it was another LTS and have a couple of nagging problems.1/ if I select LXLE 16.04 from the grub menu the computer boots to a desktop, no worries but if I let Grub time out the computer goes through the process of booting and makes a Fanfare noise but the screen is black and unresponsive.2/ my screen save is causing a problem in as much as if the machine is unattended and the screen save kicks in moving the mouse of pressing enter results in a Garbled image with a big red button which means a re-boot is required.3/ I have my addresses on a USB stick but permission to read it is denied si I need to edit perm...

First up sorry for the length of this post, and my newbieness, although I've been a user of lubuntu for a while, I'm still pretty new to a lot of it's ier workings. I currently have lubuntu 16.04.1 installed on a HP Compaq nc6220 laptop.Anyway, I noticed a few months ago (quite possibly when I upgraded to 16.04, but I can't be sure to be honest) that my wifi coection has a habit of discoecting itself then recoecting. I also noticed that my coection is quite slow - based on speedtest.net my girlfriends laptop next to me always gets at least 10mbps download speeds, whilst I vary between 4mbps al the way through to 10mbps.After looking at other threads here I tried to install wicd and remove ne...
