I just switched from IPS237L-BN (1920×1080) to new Dell P2416D (2560x1440) monitors in a dual setup. And I have the following problem. I get a a message on my monitors stating:"The current input timing is not supported by the monitor. Please change your input timing to 2560×1440, 60Hz or any other monitor listed timing as per the monitor specifications." Effectively I don't see my boot/bios screen or any tty's. Once at the logon screen I have 2× highres screens running at 2560x1440 without a problem.What works:With a vga cable I see the boot screen and tty's.With DVI-D > HDMI cable connected I see GUI onlyWith HDMI cable connected I see GUI onlyWhat doesn't work:With DVI-D > HDMI cable connected I don't see the boot screen and tty'sWith HDMI cable connected I don't see the boot screen and tty'sBoth situations display the "input timing" message.Is there a solution for this situation? Greetings,I recently built my first 16.04 server. It has 2 1TB drives in a RAID 1 for /, Boot, Swap, and Primary Data Storage.The boot partitions on both drives is marked as bootable.It has another RAID 1 of 1TB drives for archive data storage.Disconnecting any one drive prevents successful boot and drops to initramfs.Running dpkg-reconfigure mdadm does not ask about boot degraded. I think I know where I went wrong, I just can't find anything on how to fix it. I installed Ubuntu alongside my Windows 7 install which have incompatible formats if I recall correctly. When I boot my computer it hangs on the BIOS for much longer than normal, with my caps lock and num lock keys constantly blinking. Once it does that for a minute or so, it goes to a black screen and flashes a message (it includes the words environment batch (or block)). It goes away so quickly I can't tell what it says.I tried booting from my Ubuntu disk but it gives this message:Loading boot logo...error setting up gfxbootWhen I try booting from a Windows 7 install USB it says:error: no such device: then a string of letters and numbersgrub rescue>with a prompt.I feel so dumb right now and just want to save this computer, I just bought it from Craig's List and was trying to install my favorite OS. So i have install a duel booted Ubuntu Server 16.04 on a separate partition on my HD intended to be used as a webserver. Windows 8 is the other OS. What I want to do is clone my Ubuntu so that if anything goes wrong, I can just reinstall from the clone, an exact copy of the original, is that how it works!?I am new to cloning a "partition" as I have never done it before. I watched some youtube videos and it looked easy with clonezilla, but since my set-up is dual boot I am unsure if it is going to be difficult to get everything to work again. Can anyone give me pointers what I should be looking out for and initials steps?Another question, if I am cloning to an USB exteal drive, does that mean I would be able to run the cloned linux from that?Thanks! I am at my wits end trying to set up RAID 1 for my OS devices. I feel like I have tried everything but I always get some sort of failure back. Here's what I have done so far that has gotten me the furthest:Both devices:2GB /boot (yes it's big but I really don't care)42GB /12GB swapThat is done on both devices (side note: setting the boot flag never works, it always remains in the off position)Next, I go to configure software RAID and I set RAID 1, 2 disks, 0 spares and choose the partitions accordingly. Once finished, I have my 3 RAID devices, my first one I set to /boot, second is / and third is swap. I get down to the point where it fails to install GRUB on the second disk. I have also tried setting the 2GB volume I have to reserved BIOS boot and either setting the RAID device to /boot or leaving it alone and it still fails with installing GRUB. I succeeded after some tinkering with permissions, but then all of a sudden it just stopped working. Now my windows 8 guest cannot even see my host through the inbuilt Network folder. In my attempt to make a my Mac Mini 1,1 dual boot OSX 10.5 and Ubuntu 14.04, I have set things up incorrectly pertaining to sharing drive space between these OS's. And I don't know how to fix it.My goal is to have the single hard drive divided into partitions for each OS, and another one for files that can be accessed from either OS.I encountered the user ID mismatch problem and tried to fix it by assigning the Ubuntu user ID to 501, to match that of the OSX 10.5 user ID. I did so by trying to follow the instructions I found on this web page: http://lifehacker.com/5702815/the-co...rating-systemsThat procedure had me create a “tempuser” account in Ubuntu. Then us some chown commands on the home directory of Ubuntu. I guess that worked. But of course, I also wanted to do the chown command on my shared files partition.
