I get a a message on my monitors stating:"The current input timing is not supported by the monitor. Please change your input timing to 2560×1440, 60Hz or any other monitor listed timing as per the monitor specifications." Effectively I don't see my boot/bios screen or any tty's. Once at the logon screen I have 2× highres screens ruing at 2560x1440 without a problem. What works:With a vga cable I see the boot screen and tty's.With DVI-D > HDMI cable coected I see GUI onlyWith HDMI cable coected I see GUI onlyWhat doesn't work:With DVI-D > HDMI cable coect...

Greetings,I recently built my first 16.04 server. It has 2 1TB drives in a RAID 1 for /, Boot, Swap, and Primary Data Storage. The boot partitions on both drives is marked as bootable. It has another RAID 1 of 1TB drives for archive data storage.Discoecting any one drive prevents successful boot and drops to initramfs.Ruing dpkg-reconfigure mdadm does not ask about boot degraded. I have tried suggestions on http://askubuntu.com/questions/78995...ot-in-16-04lts without success.I'm hoping someone can assist with setting up both raids to boot degraded as neither RAID will boot but drops into initramfs. Thanks in advance,LeonAdditional detail in case it matters:/proc/mdstat:Personalities : [raid1] ...

I think I know where I went wrong, I just can't find anything on how to fix it. I installed Ubuntu alongside my Windows 7 install which have incompatible formats if I recall correctly. When I boot my computer it hangs on the BIOS for much longer than normal, with my caps lock and num lock keys constantly blinking. Once it does that for a minute or so, it goes to a black screen and flashes a message (it includes the words environment batch (or block)). It goes away so quickly I can't tell what it says.I tried booting from my Ubuntu disk but it gives this message:Loading boot logo...error setting up gfxbootWhen I try booting from a Windows 7 install USB it says:error: no such device: then a st...

So i have install a duel booted Ubuntu Server 16.04 on a separate partition on my HD intended to be used as a webserver. Windows 8 is the other OS. What I want to do is clone my Ubuntu so that if anything goes wrong, I can just reinstall from the clone, an exact copy of the original, is that how it works!?I am new to cloning a "partition" as I have never done it before. I watched some youtube videos and it looked easy with clonezilla, but since my set-up is dual boot I am unsure if it is going to be difficult to get everything to work again. Can anyone give me pointers what I should be looking out for and initials steps?Another question, if I am cloning to an USB exteal drive, does that mean...

I am at my wits end trying to set up RAID 1 for my OS devices. I feel like I have tried everything but I always get some sort of failure back. Here's what I have done so far that has gotten me the furthest:Both devices:2GB /boot (yes it's big but I really don't care)42GB /12GB swapThat is done on both devices (side note: setting the boot flag never works, it always remains in the off position)Next, I go to configure software RAID and I set RAID 1, 2 disks, 0 spares and choose the partitions accordingly. Once finished, I have my 3 RAID devices, my first one I set to /boot, second is / and third is swap. I get down to the point where it fails to install GRUB on the second disk. I have also tri...

Dear all,I am not very Linux or computer savvy in general, and I have shued these forums for a long time for this reason. But I’m up against a strange situation, and I haven’t seen anyone online who’s had this happen to them. I’m now more curious then finding out why this is happening than even fixing it.A friend I talked to about this suggested I film what’s happening, but I think I can explain it in writing.Currently I am ruing Ubuntu 16.06 alongside Windows 10. I have a HP Pavilion 360 - 13-a200nt, CPU Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-5200U CPU @ 2.20GHz, 2201 Mhz. I updated my Bios on this computer to the final version on July 18 (and it hasn’t changed my situation).I'm attaching a boot log from my ...

I tried Multisystem maybe some years ago and it worked for me. I don't know how to plays with 16.04 LTS. If you have problems with French (like me), maybe you should try another tool to create a multiboot system. If you intend to use it for many distros, also distros that are very different from Ubuntu and Debian, I suggest that you try some other tool, for example- Multiboot-USB- YUMI (from Windows)If you will use it only for Ubuntu, flavours and re-spins based on Ubuntu, you can try- One pendrive for all PC (Intel/AMD) computers - single-boot dual-boot multi-bootYou can also make it yourself according to the following general 'grub-n-iso' linksArch: Multiboot_USB_drivehttps://help.ubuntu.co...

In my attempt to make a my Mac Mini 1,1 dual boot OSX 10.5 and Ubuntu 14.04, I have set things up incorrectly pertaining to sharing drive space between these OS's. And I don't know how to fix it.My goal is to have the single hard drive divided into partitions for each OS, and another one for files that can be accessed from either OS.I encountered the user ID mismatch problem and tried to fix it by assigning the Ubuntu user ID to 501, to match that of the OSX 10.5 user ID. I did so by trying to follow the instructions I found on this web page: http://lifehacker.com/5702815/the-co...rating-systemsThat procedure had me create a “tempuser” account in Ubuntu. Then us some chown commands on the ho...

Hello Members! Please help me wade through these Confusing entries getting visible against the Boot-menu. ( http://bit.ly/2bHirbK )Upon choosing any of the relevant entries associated to Windows OS, this Boot-menu is disappearing altogether from subsequent System restarts & Windows OS is loading automatically without offering me a choice to choose b/w the two!?Thereafter, Iam able to gain access to Ubuntu by fiddling with BOOT-ORDER again through the BIOS set-up of my HP AIO Desktop PC (18-1206in).Please assist further.Thanks.PS - Here are the following Hyperlinks associated to Boot-Repair Logs::::1) paste.ubuntu.com/230950132) paste.ubuntu.com/230949053) paste.ubuntu.com/230945774) paste...

I've been using 14.04, and just used the upgrade command.Things happened, it asked me if I wanted to keep my grub config file or use the new one.I chose to use the new one. It sat for a while, then rebooted. On reboot, it brings up a GNU GRUB version 2.02 beta2-9ubuntu1.12 label at the top, with a grub prompt.Nothing works now.Does anybody know how to get past this??? Problems with "Ralink RT3290LE 802.11bgn 1x1 Wifi and Bluetooth 4.0 Combo Adapter" and ubuntu 16.04:1- If the wifi card is tued on when you order shutdown of the system (from terminal, shutdown button, etc.), the result is always a restart. To shutdown the laptop, one must disable previously the wifi card.2- Low sensitivity to wifi signal, sometimes losing coection intermittently. In my case, at 3 meters from the router, without obstacles in between, signal strength ranges from only 51 to 63%. Speed tests show really lower speed, specially for download (I compared this card with an usb wifi dongle)3- Sometimes the wifi card loses the coection and remains deactivated, no matter what you do; i...

Hallo Everyone,I am trying to install a Canon Pixma MG5750 for a friend and have discovered a strange thing ...We both have identical installations of Lubuntu (I installed for him) but my installation contains the driver for this printer but his does not.My suspicion is that, at some time, I have installed a bundle of "extra printers".Does such a thing exist? Maybe available via Synaptic?Any tips would be a great help because Canon doesn't seem to support Linux with this printer (or am I wrong?)Many thanks,Alan Let's block ads! بخوانید...

Almost all security is a false sense of security. Not even the Pentagon can keep everyone out of their business.I know of no arrangement where a logged-in user who opens malware (inadvertently or not) is protected whether the home directory is encrypted or not. If the malware is ruing under the logged-in user's account, then the data is effectively not encrypted, because the encryption layer is transparent after the key is enabled. This is true for any operating system.Let's block ads! بخوانید...

Hi,after the update to ubuntu 16.04, my laptop (Samsung NP305E5A) boots to a black screen. The boot process continues since it is obviously reading from the hard drive and also playing the drums sound for the login-window after a while. However, the screen remains black from right after the grub-screen is gone and stays like that. Ctrl+Alt+F2 also does not take me to a usable command line. I found no way for the screen to show anything. However, I did find something one might call a workaround. If I kill the booted laptop by pressing the power button for several seconds and then try the boot process again, ubuntu works absolutely fine with one notable exeption: grub gives me 30 seconds to cho...
