Looking at the persistent live Ubuntu 16.04 LTS system - the Software & Updates screen / Update - I notice, that Automatic updates is set to 'Download and install automatically'. This is bad in a persistent live system. After leaving the persistent live Ubuntu 16.04 LTS system ruing oveight, I found that it had performed an automatic upgrade:df revealed that the content in casper-rw had increased to 1.6 GiB.This is risky: If not enough space (and inodes) in the casper-rw partition or file, the upgrade operation will be incomplete and fail. There might be big problems even if there is space left in casper-rw, and finally, this is wasting the available space, unless you have a huge casper-r...

I've been using 14.04, and just used the upgrade command.Things happened, it asked me if I wanted to keep my grub config file or use the new one.I chose to use the new one. It sat for a while, then rebooted. On reboot, it brings up a GNU GRUB version 2.02 beta2-9ubuntu1.12 label at the top, with a grub prompt.Nothing works now.Does anybody know how to get past this??? Hello. My friend has Ubuntu, the previous LTS, installed on her Asus EEE PC 1000H laptop. She is considering to upgrade to Xenial Xerus. Are there any guarantees if the upgrade succeeds, and whether it works well enough? The current LTS Ubuntu works on the laptop, it is really slow but works. The laptop has 2 GB RAM, 120 GB Kingston SSD, GPU is probably Intel GMA.Has anybody else experiences on ruing Xenial Xerus on EEE PC 1000H?What are the possible problems one should expect when upgrading and after the upgrade (if it succeeds)? Hi,I'm trying to do-release-upgrade from my 14.04.5 LTS box to 16.04 LTS, but do-release-upgrade tells me that either I have unofficial packages or I'm trying to upgrade from an outdated version, neither of which seems to be true. But other than this message, I can't get out the specifics of why the upgrade is not working.14.04.5 is listed among the 'current' releases: http://releases.ubuntu.com/ . this is what my system sais: Code: # lsb_release -a No LSB modules are available. Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description: Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS Release: 14.04 Codename: trusty I filed a bug on this regard, but no response: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...r/+bug/1612301What could...

Hello.Am a Linux novice. Performed an on-line update from 14.04 to 16.04 on my laptop which is an Asus Ultrabook. It has an 1T SSD and is dual-boot with Windows 8.1 via grub. Have done the same upgrade on my Intel i7 desktop without issue. It however DOES NOT have an SSD.During boot, there are errors reported that I caot decipher and, I believe, has to do with Ubuntu recognizing my SSD (sd9?). It is a Corsair SSD. During boot it performs some sort of disk diag that runs for 1m 50s? Sometimes it won't boot at all and I have to do the three-finger-salute (control-alt-delete).Have a copy of my dmsg file and have attached it... (after I looked up where to find it)Again. It's an Asus Ultrabook S5...

I'm trying to upgrade from Kubuntu 14.04 to 16.04 and having a great deal of trouble about it.I became aware that a new version is available via popup notification on the desktop asking me if I want to upgrade to 16.04. I tell it "yes, update." It goes through a series of processes and ultimately gives me an error message saying I don't have enough space in some part of the hard drive, and to empty my trash and clean-out temporary files from old distros with Code: sudo apt-get clean I'm pretty sure that was the command. Either way, I did everything it asked and then tried again, with the same result. Insufficient space.I tried to bu an iso image of the new distro onto a DVD-R, thinking th...

But I never had to deal with this kind of issue. Because all of my computers was perfectly compatible with GNU/Linux distros. Sorry about that.1- On touchpad, Multitouch doesn't work.2- On FN keys, brightness control doesn't work3- Is there a tablet mode for Ubuntu ? Let's block ads! بخوانید...

Hey. Thank you for your answer! Today I found out that Ubuntu 15.10 is no longer supported. I will upgrade to 16.04 as soon as I have fixed the boot problem (when I manage to do it). You're right indeed. I can see in term.log several lines with GRUB, efi and Boot.Is there a standard procedure to deal with this problem?I am helpless. Here the history.log:Start-Date: 2016-08-11 00:31:53Commandline: aptdaemon role='role-commit-packages' sender=':1.107'Install: linux-image-extra-4.2.0-42-generic:amd64 (4.2.0-42.49, automatic), linux-image-4.2.0-42-generic:amd64 (4.2.0-42.49, automatic), mokutil:amd64 (0.3.0-0ubuntu3~15.10.1, automatic), linux-headers-4.2.0-42:amd64 (4.2.0-42.49, automatic), linux-...

I have installed ubuntu server 12.04 from a LiveCD adn it works fine with me. Now I need to upgrade to ubuntu 13.10. It is mentioned that I cant upgrade directly so I have to upgrade to 12.10, then 13.02, then 13.10 (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UpgradeNotes). https://youtu.be/0pHVeeHbE9IAfter ruing the command "do-release-upgrade", the upgrade process seemed to complete. I did notice some errors, such as this message that appeared multiple times:GLIBCXX_3.4.21 not defined in file libstdc++.so.6 with link time referenceAnyways, after the installation process told me it was finished, and rebooted, all I get is a endless cycle of an error message appearing for a fraction of a second, and then what appears to be a flash in the screen then a reboot or something. I can't enter the grub menu by pressing shift while on the boot logo screen. I tried multiple times, the menu won't come up. What can do to fix this situation without wiping the drive clean? L...

When I first upgraded, I was given a "system is ruing in low graphics mode" message, then everything ran just fine, graphics apparently normal. When I restarted it some time after, however, after selecting Ubuntu on grub, it gives me a screen that, to my memory (didn't have the time to screencap), seems to imply that something is wrong with the disk, after which it goes blank for a bit, then very briefly shows a bunch of rainbow static combined with a mosaic of my desktop. When I looked the Ubuntu partition over in Windows using DiskInteals Linux Reader, all my files were fine (and yes, I did immediately make a backup).I reinstalled Ubuntu, taking care to set everything as it was (same mount...
