Problems with "Ralink RT3290LE 802.11bgn 1x1 Wifi and Bluetooth 4.0 Combo Adapter" and ubuntu 16.04:1- If the wifi card is tued on when you order shutdown of the system (from terminal, shutdown button, etc.), the result is always a restart. To shutdown the laptop, one must disable previously the wifi card.2- Low sensitivity to wifi signal, sometimes losing coection intermittently. In my case, at 3 meters from the router, without obstacles in between, signal strength ranges from only 51 to 63%. Speed tests show really lower speed, specially for download (I compared this card with an usb wifi dongle)3- Sometimes the wifi card loses the coection and remains deactivated, no matter what you do; i...

Almost all security is a false sense of security. Not even the Pentagon can keep everyone out of their business.I know of no arrangement where a logged-in user who opens malware (inadvertently or not) is protected whether the home directory is encrypted or not. If the malware is ruing under the logged-in user's account, then the data is effectively not encrypted, because the encryption layer is transparent after the key is enabled. This is true for any operating system.Let's block ads! بخوانید...

I've installed Windows 10 and Ubuntu 16.04 (also tried Xubuntu 16.04/14.04) on my brand new laptop i5 6200u/8gb/gt940m/240gb. I have problem with ubuntu performance, which doesn't occur on windows, where everything i've tried works just fine. On ubuntu I feel lagging when just typing - e. g. in codeblocks or in chromium. In gtkperf i receive very different results - once it's like 2,5s and next time 20-30s (!).I tried reinstalling ubuntu couple of times, with swap and without it. Also on empty ssd - with no effect at all. Memtest - no errors, ssd benchmarks - fine, cpu benchmarks - common results (benchmarking under windows).I wonder if someone can tell me what causes my problems - thanks in ...

I'm not easily given to flaming wars, and this is not meant as bashing Firefox, but over the past few weeks with 16.04.1 and 14.04.5 iso and upgrade testing I've been ruing Firefox with totally fresh profiles (so it's not due to cruft in an old profile) and when I go back to my daily driver (based on 14.04.1) I find both Chrome and Opera are downright snappy in comparison. This is all on the same hardware, and I did try Firefox on my daily driver with a fresh profile to be sure it wasn't a Xenial specific issue.I had mostly switched from Firefox to Chrome and/or Opera anyway just for aesthetics sake (yes, Firefox has tried to become a near clone) but noticing how much slower Firefox has beco...

Hello all.So, I'm ruing an old PNY Nvidia GeForce 5200 FX AGP card in my old P4 Dell Dimension 4500. I am using the open source drivers since the proprietary drivers are not supported on 16.04.For awhile, the performance was great, and I could watch videos with little to no issues.Today, there was an update that I installed. After that update, and rebooting the machine, I can no longer watch videos as they are choppy as can be.I also noticed that I no longer have the ability to change my screen resolution. I'm stuck in 1280 x 1024 with a refresh rate of 77.I'm not sure what's going on at this point.Any ideas on how to fix this would be great. Thank you in advance.Below is everything that upd...

First up sorry for the length of this post, and my newbieness, although I've been a user of lubuntu for a while, I'm still pretty new to a lot of it's ier workings. I currently have lubuntu 16.04.1 installed on a HP Compaq nc6220 laptop.Anyway, I noticed a few months ago (quite possibly when I upgraded to 16.04, but I can't be sure to be honest) that my wifi coection has a habit of discoecting itself then recoecting. I also noticed that my coection is quite slow - based on speedtest.net my girlfriends laptop next to me always gets at least 10mbps download speeds, whilst I vary between 4mbps al the way through to 10mbps.After looking at other threads here I tried to install wicd and remove ne...
