I think I know where I went wrong, I just can't find anything on how to fix it. I installed Ubuntu alongside my Windows 7 install which have incompatible formats if I recall correctly. When I boot my computer it hangs on the BIOS for much longer than normal, with my caps lock and num lock keys constantly blinking. Once it does that for a minute or so, it goes to a black screen and flashes a message (it includes the words environment batch (or block)). It goes away so quickly I can't tell what it says.I tried booting from my Ubuntu disk but it gives this message:Loading boot logo...error setting up gfxbootWhen I try booting from a Windows 7 install USB it says:error: no such device: then a string of letters and numbersgrub rescue>with a prompt.I feel so dumb right now and just want to save this computer, I just bought it from Craig's List and was trying to install my favorite OS. So the xorg issue with the pointer disappearing has been solved and that is absolutely great!However, I still seem to have a problem with light locker. After suspend, locking the screen or logging out, I see my wallpaper for a second or so, then there is a glitch and tus to the default light blue background. When I change the user to Guest and then back to my account, my wallpaper appears and stays for good.Any ideas as to what might be causing this and/or how to fix it? I am trying to dual boot ubuntu 14 and windows 10 on my dell xps 9350. They have both been installed and the windows side boots fine. However when I attempt to boot into ubuntu I get the following errorError parsing pcc from pcct subspacesata3.0: exception Emask 0.0I made sure fast boot is off on the windows side and secure boot is off. Looking at the persistent live Ubuntu 16.04 LTS system - the Software & Updates screen / Update - I notice, that Automatic updates is set to 'Download and install automatically'. This is bad in a persistent live system.After leaving the persistent live Ubuntu 16.04 LTS system running oveight, I found that it had performed an automatic upgrade:df revealed that the content in casper-rw had increased to 1.6 GiB.This is risky: If not enough space (and inodes) in the casper-rw partition or file, the upgrade operation will be incomplete and fail. There might be big problems even if there is space left in casper-rw, and finally, this is wasting the available space, unless you have a huge casper-rw partition.I am surprised that the persistent live system started an automatic security upgrade. I don't think it is caused by the installer (mkusb), because the files controlling those actions are not touched. I am attempting to install a dependency for the ffmpeg packageThe dependency is libgnutls30 (version 3.5.3.2)The error is: Breaks existing package 'libgnutls-openssl27' dependency libgnutls30 (=3.4.10-4ubuntu1.1)Do I force install this specific dependency? If not, how do I get around this error? I cannot install any other dependencies for ffmpeg, nor can I install the complete ffmpeg package, until I get this error resolved. So I have an HP Mini netbook that was previously used as my main laptop. I have since upgraded to a better system, but my need for it retued as my old server, a Sony VAIO laptop, experienced a hard drive failure. It was old anyways so I decided to use the netbook instead. It didn't have a CD drive so I had to put the ISO for Unbuntu Server (32-Bit) on a flash drive. The installation succeeded, but when it came time to restart to boot for the first time, the laptop would get to the HP splash screen but would hang at this screen. Keyboard input didn't help either. Couldn't change boot settings and couldn't enter BIOS. I took it apart and hooked up the HDD to my desktop computer. The drive spun up but it wasn't detected by Windows. Also the netbook experienced the same issue even without its hard drive. Please help me resolve this issue as I need a server to run my website. Thanks! So I installed "Calibre" -- the epub reader -- on my Xenial drive and noticed right away that the icons on my top-panel & my desktop were suddenly all-white with a red "X" on them.I re-booted, and the login screen was black (background image totally not there), but the useame & password boxes still appeared, so at least I could log in.The second I was logged in, although I could see that my startup programs had loaded, instantly the entire screen on both my monitors did this whole BLINK-BLINK-BLINK-BLINK thing and just kept up like that. I had Mythbuntu 14.04 running on this machine, but it was getting flaky: some recordings OK, some zero-length, some excessively large and presumably corrupt that would crash the frontend when I tried to play them. I'd applied the various updates that were offered, but they did not cure the problem. Then a day or two ago I was offered the update to 16.04, but that was a disaster, so I saved my recordings to an exteal drive and ran mythconverg_backup.pl and copied the resulting files to the exteal drive as well. Then I tried installing 14.04.5 from scratch but the installation failed -- something involving xfsettingsd -- so I installed 14.04.2. I can watch live TV, but there is no longer a Program Guide (or whatever it was called) on the menu, and when I press "I" while viewing I get "Unknown." Problems with "Ralink RT3290LE 802.11bgn 1x1 Wifi and Bluetooth 4.0 Combo Adapter" and ubuntu 16.04:1- If the wifi card is tued on when you order shutdown of the system (from terminal, shutdown button, etc.), the result is always a restart. To shutdown the laptop, one must disable previously the wifi card.2- Low sensitivity to wifi signal, sometimes losing connection intermittently. In my case, at 3 meters from the router, without obstacles in between, signal strength ranges from only 51 to 63%. Speed tests show really lower speed, specially for download (I compared this card with an usb wifi dongle)3- Sometimes the wifi card loses the connection and remains deactivated, no matter what you do; if you simply restart the system, it is impossible to tu it on; by contrast, if you make a shutdown instead of a restart, the wifi card works again.I'm experiencing all of these issues with a HP Envy m6-1202ss and ubuntu 16.04. Hi all,I have some problems with my write speed on all disks.First of all some informations:- New to Ubuntu - Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS- ProLiant MicroServer Gen8 (819185-421)- Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU G1610T @ 2.30GHz- 4GB RAM- 4 disks (1x 300GB, 3x 2TB Weste Digital Red, 2 of the 2TB disks are new)- Fresh installation on new server, it occurs since the beginningWhen I copy something to the server via samba from a Win10 Pc the speed is fluctuating from 110 MB/s to 5-6 MB/s.
