It's taken me several hours to get to where I can try to start virtual box but without the extension pack, it still won't work. To get to this point, I had to disable secure boot. I had a deadline last night that was compromised because virtualbox was broken - and these problems are threatening my education (and any hope I have for a future).I'm using 14.04LTS and WILL NOT UPGRADE. The change from 12.04 to 14.04 took me weeks to figure out and get back to the way I wanted things (as well as getting all of the software I use to work) - admittedly that was on an old system and this one is new - a Dell preloaded ...
ادامه مطلبHello Ubuntu community! I just joined specifically to get help since nothing I've found has worked. My household has been solely Windows users, until we decided a couple months ago to start adjusting to Ubuntu to get away from Windows. I bought a Lenovo laptop, immediately replaced the hdd with a new ssd (Samsung 850 EVO), and installed Ubuntu 14.04 LTS by usb flash drive. Even after reading many guides and threads about the process of installing and setting up Ubuntu, right from the start things didn't follow anything I knew of; we even had to switch to another server to get missing files (or something like that). So far we've honestly been rather disappointed with Ubuntu, as updates keep co...

Once I installed the Broadcom driver, the wifi worked fine until the other day when I messed around with some settings, trying to get a live usb recognized in it. I didn't touch it for several days and when I went back to it last night, wifi was not working. When I say not working, I mean it didn't recognize the wifi coection at all in the Network coection manager on the Unity panel; not in Gnome either. I checked Additional Drivers and the Broadcom driver was installed. I confirmed that it was still working in Windows 10. I next coected my Dell to etheet, updated the software and reinstalled the Broadcom driver. St...

If you only have Ubuntu that does not matter. But UEFI has fast boot which is not related to Windows fast start up.UEFI fast boot assumes system is configured exactly as it was before rebooting. It can speed boot for both Ubuntu & Windows. But if hardware or configuration otherwise changes, then you may need to go into UEFI to change settings. And it can be so quick you have no time to press del for f2 key to get into UEFI.Often cold boot uses normal not fast boot. With my motherboard, I had fast boot on/off settings for both cold boot & warm (reboot). And a setting for delay. I set delay to ...

(among other things). No proprietary drivers will be an issue for quitte a lots of people. Is that any plan to fix this other that "deactivate secure boot" ?Why, as I had the nvidia drivers installed, didn't the update told me to un-install them, to avoid a black screen at reboot ? Or at least wa me the update will cause such a severe regression ? That point really need to be sorted out before the July version. There are so many post with people going at issue with the AMD / nvidia drivers. So much for being user-friendly.What about...
ادامه مطلبHi,I own a Samsung laptop and I have successfully installed Ubuntu using UEFI alongside Windows 10 (upgraded from Windows 8.1 OEM).Fast boot and Secure Boot were both enabled on bios side, when I installed Ubuntu.Everything worked great, until I:- discoected my inteal dual booting SSD- coected a old inteal bootable HD with windows 10 (and use it)- recoected my inteal dual booting SSD- never changed bios settingsNow, when grub tries to start, the bios says "Secure boot violation - Signature failed".However I can load it by forcing "UEFI" (option 2BC below) in my system settings, without any problem. Code: gdisk partition table Number Start (sector) End (sector) Size Code Name 1 2048 1024000 4...
