The 5th May result is not relevant. Not because it is for trusty and not xenial but in trusty you had enabled the repositories for the source code and also some PPAs as well as extras which are not enabled in the xenial installation.I am guessing that the update utility has some way of knowing if a repository has had changes made to the software in the repository. If no changes have been made then there is no point is downloading the list of software in the repository to compare it with the software packages installed on the system to determine which specific packages can be upgraded.This might or might not be a new thing for xenial. It doesn't show any error message, but there is no response at all. I did a fresh erase disk and install of Wiley a yesterday and it's now dead after ruing apt-get update this moing.Even yesterday problems were occurring with graphics crashes and a long boot time (9 mins). And previous to this install I had problems with 14.04 graphics and extreme boot times (20+ mins)I didn't allow updates to run while installing 15.10 this time and got most videos streaming by installing flash plugin installer with synaptic. Then, in the evening, I allowed software updater to run and carried on using the system after reboot, but still seeing occasional graphics crashes. Long boots were only occurring on 14.04 only after long shut downs and the same thing happened this moin...

I've been having this problem for a long time, but never figured it out. Hi!I just installed Ubuntu 15.10 and have been trying to get it up and ruing all moing. So far so good. However, whenever I "sudo apt-get update" for my PPAs, I start getting 404'd all over the place. WHAT A BUMMER! I have searched the forums for various solutions (unchecking, removing various PPAs, ruing clean and autoremove, dealing with them one-by-one) but to no avail. Recent updates to the thinkorswim java program caused that to stop working on my system. It was pretty frustrating because it wasn't clear what was wrong.
