Hi.My search in the forums on this topic has retued nothing so I start this thread.I have an exteal USB hard drive which I use with my laptops (ruing Ubuntu or Linux Mint) but also with other computers ruing Windows. I might have in the future to use it with Macs.It is currently NTFS formatted although reformatting it would not be an issue.I wish to protect its content by encrypting it. A few years ago I would simply have used TrueCrypt but since it is not supported any longer, I am wondering if I'd better not search for another solution.Creating a LUKS partition would not not work with Windows OS. Similarly using BitLocker would not work with Linux.Any idea ? Let's block ads! بخوانید...

Hey folks,I have an exteal hard drive, wanted to create something like a "ubuntu live usb"-partition. I found some solutions in the web, but i actually want to access "ubuntu live" via a grub entry, since i also want to install a working ubuntu version on that hard disk (and to be ambitious, i wanted to install also a win 7 recovery option, but this is not that important).I have a partition table with MBR and the following partitions:sdb1 420 GB NTFS, primarysdb2 5 GB Ext4, primary bootsdb3 25 GB NTFS, primarysdb4 50 GB Ext4, primaryI tried to do it with the "Startup Disk Creator", but he does not recognize the partitions (and i put the "boot"-flag to sdb2 with GParted). So my first question ...

I have Ubuntu 14.04 LTS installed on a 8G USB Flash Drive. How would I clear a 500G Exteal HD that coects to USB port and check it for problems and correct them, etc.Eventually, I wish to boot from the exteal USB 500G HD instead of the 8G USB flash drive. The 500G has some problems that need to be corrected before I can pursue being able to boot from it.
