So I have an HP Mini netbook that was previously used as my main laptop. I have since upgraded to a better system, but my need for it retued as my old server, a Sony VAIO laptop, experienced a hard drive failure. It was old anyways so I decided to use the netbook instead. It didn't have a CD drive so I had to put the ISO for Unbuntu Server (32-Bit) on a flash drive. The installation succeeded, but when it came time to restart to boot for the first time, the laptop would get to the HP splash screen but would hang at this screen. Keyboard input didn't help either. Hello all.So, I'm ruing an old PNY Nvidia GeForce 5200 FX AGP card in my old P4 Dell Dimension 4500. I am using the open source drivers since the proprietary drivers are not supported on 16.04.For awhile, the performance was great, and I could watch videos with little to no issues.Today, there was an update that I installed. After that update, and rebooting the machine, I can no longer watch videos as they are choppy as can be.I also noticed that I no longer have the ability to change my screen resolution. Hi there,I'm trying to intall Lubuntu on an old laptop to use as a NAS / web server / for general messing about.... The laptop is ancient, has 128mb ram and a 800mhz processor. It's ruing Win XP.I have tried various installation methods without success:- Unetbootin install to HDD (same partition as Windows - there is no other option in unetbootin) - The installation competes but no grub bootloader appears and the Laptop just boots into Windows.- USB stick intallation has the following issues: - The laptop does not seem to boot my Lubuntu usb stick (which boots on all other boxes).- I think the BIOS settings are correct, but the laptop keyboard doesn't work, so I can't change the BIOS setting...

hi, i am new to linux, just installed ubuntu 16.04.1 in a hyper-v machine, changed the ip address of the newly ubuntu server everything is fine, during the OS installation of the server i choose open ssh server packages to be installed too so i can remote access it from my network, but the problem is a can ping it from any where in my network but cant coect ssh to it for some strange reason, i checked the sshd service it is up and ruing, when ever i try to coect using putty in my windows machine the coection fail due to time out. There may be a LOT of stuff in Ubuntu Studio that you will never use, so try that and Ubuntu in a live session to see which you like best before installing.
