Greetings,I recently built my first 16.04 server. It has 2 1TB drives in a RAID 1 for /, Boot, Swap, and Primary Data Storage. The boot partitions on both drives is marked as bootable. It has another RAID 1 of 1TB drives for archive data storage.Discoecting any one drive prevents successful boot and drops to initramfs.Ruing dpkg-reconfigure mdadm does not ask about boot degraded. I have tried suggestions on http://askubuntu.com/questions/78995...ot-in-16-04lts without success.I'm hoping someone can assist with setting up both raids to boot degraded as neither RAID will boot but drops into initramfs. Thanks in advance,LeonAdditional detail in case it matters:/proc/mdstat:Personalities : [raid1] ...

In my attempt to make a my Mac Mini 1,1 dual boot OSX 10.5 and Ubuntu 14.04, I have set things up incorrectly pertaining to sharing drive space between these OS's. And I don't know how to fix it.My goal is to have the single hard drive divided into partitions for each OS, and another one for files that can be accessed from either OS.I encountered the user ID mismatch problem and tried to fix it by assigning the Ubuntu user ID to 501, to match that of the OSX 10.5 user ID. I did so by trying to follow the instructions I found on this web page: http://lifehacker.com/5702815/the-co...rating-systemsThat procedure had me create a “tempuser” account in Ubuntu. Then us some chown commands on the ho...

Maybe I am making this more complicated than it needs to be - I suppose that can be said often for security.Anyway - I have a series of directories that I can browse from the command line using Putty but using the same user ids from a Win10 box I can't access the same shares via Samba. What am I doing wrong? Here is the directory on the Ubuntu Server: Code: drwxrwxr-x 201 jey g-dlna 204 Jul 16 10:14 Music drwxrwx--- 9 jey g-adults 34 Jul 19 15:05 OurDocs drwxrwx--- 2 ken g-adults 3 Aug 21 22:23 Test When trying to browse the shares from Windows 10 useing either user name jey or ken I get an error indicating "you don' t have permission to access \UBUNTUSRVTest"If I chmod 777 the ...

There are Linux apps to convert, never used them. But the issue really is that Windows only boots in BIOS boot mode from MBR partitioned drives. And Windows only boots in UEFI mode from gpt partitioned drives. (and you need newer UEFI hardware).Ubuntu can boot from gpt with either BIOS or UEFI but with BIOS you must have a 1 or 2MB unformatted partition with the bios_grub flag for BIOS boot or a FAT32 formatted partition as the ESP - efi system partition.Probably best to fully backup and reinstall if you have newer UEFI hardware.I started converting to gpt years ago when I still had XP. But XP was on MBR drive with Ubuntu on gpt drive.Converting to or from GPThttp://www.rodsbooks.com/gdisk/mbr...

HP laptop, updated from Windows 7 x64 to Windows 10 (standard BIOS) with two 500 GB hard drives & 8 GB RAM wanting to dual boot Ubuntu 16.04.1 but ruing into issues with the disk 0 / sda already having four partitions and quickly ruing out of knowledge!I had previously deleted the HP Recovery partition on Disk 0 and shrunk C: volume so I had approximately 100 GB unallocated space for Ubuntu install but during Ubuntu install realized I still had the 3 partitions and so wasn't sure how to work around that with either drive. So I extended the C: volume and removed the 100 GB unallocated space until I could figure out what and how to setup. Here is where I'm at in Ubuntu install when have the ...

I just reinstalled Ubuntu 16.04 Server using the instructions at:https://www.howtoforge.com/tutorial/...and-ispconfig/The installation seemed to go fine. I coected to ispConfig to begin setting things up. However, a short time later, I was unable to recoect from inside and outside my home network. Forget port 8080, I now can't even enter the ip to get the Apache2 Ubuntu Default Page.SSH/port 22 works with no problem but entering my server ip into my browser gives me:Unable to coectFirefox can’t establish a coection to the server at XX.XX.XX.XX.The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments. If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer’s network c...

So I had a crappy 4:3 monitor with bad coers and a line, DVI hookup and I swapped it for a 16:10 one that looks much better, and of course everything was plug and play on the Windows 10 side. Trouble is, after Grub when I try to login to Ubuntu 16, I can't get anything out of the keyboard or mouse, with no other things changed. Anyone have any ideas?I tried unplugging and re-plugging them in while it's in the login screen, to no avail. Let's block ads! بخوانید...

I have already looked into the system preferences and it dosen't list the native resolution of 1280x1024 that my second monitor has. I have already tried a lot of things, so let me just copy over what I did from askubuntu:Short explanation:The problem in short is that changing my display resolution to what I want it to be fails, but works in Windows. I tried using xrandr and that failed with a "BadMatch" error. And after that I tried to create an xorg.conf file with "X -configure" in root shell, but that failed with the error "Number of created screens does not match number of detected devices. Configuration failed." How can I cange my screen resolution?Long explanation:My SetupI want to sta...

Hello,I updated my Ubuntu 14.04 to 16.04 LTS, and I have since had some issues with my exteal monitor. As I move my cursor to my second monitor I often get screen flicker, a brief black flash, it also flickers on my primary laptop screen when I do this. The flicker is relatively inconsistent, it happens more often than not though. Most frustratingly of all is that quite often my exteal monitor will go fully black and I will need to click on that screen or move the cursor to it to see the screen properly again. I had none of these problems with Ubuntu 14.04 and I now regret upgrading. I have looked at rollback options but I would much rather avoid this. Has anyone else experiences this? is it...
