In my attempt to make a my Mac Mini 1,1 dual boot OSX 10.5 and Ubuntu 14.04, I have set things up incorrectly pertaining to sharing drive space between these OS's. And I don't know how to fix it.My goal is to have the single hard drive divided into partitions for each OS, and another one for files that can be accessed from either OS.I encountered the user ID mismatch problem and tried to fix it by assigning the Ubuntu user ID to 501, to match that of the OSX 10.5 user ID. I did so by trying to follow the instructions I found on this web page: http://lifehacker.com/5702815/the-co...rating-systemsThat procedure had me create a “tempuser” account in Ubuntu. Then us some chown commands on the ho...

I've decided to start a new thread on this, rather than keep adding to me 14.04 to 15.10 thread.I have upgraded to 16.04.1I am finding a few issues. So far: Wireless coection is unstable. I'm using wired for now. Monitor switches off after being left idle, and the only way to wake it is reboot. I've now tued off the sleep mode, but that's not ideal either. Ubuntu software centre is still in my menu, but won't load. I'm sure i will find more, but any thoughts on these would be appreciated.Let's block ads! بخوانید...

Came back to linux because I'm tired of Windows. Ruing into a few issues however. I have a Dell Inspiron 7348, which dell sells with Ubuntu.First, my mouse icons disspears after I recover from sleep. I read this may have something to do with a gnome daemon, I checked and didn't see it. Any idea's here?I have the proprietary Intel video drivers installed, at least I think I do.Also, something I'm not used too, is the jumping. It's so sensitive! I caot find way to reduce the, or even configure the sensitivity, or some sort of palm detection.Lastly, at least so far is the keyboard. Non of my built-in keys like volume etc work. Is there a way to enable them? I would prefer to have the FN key set...

There are Linux apps to convert, never used them. But the issue really is that Windows only boots in BIOS boot mode from MBR partitioned drives. And Windows only boots in UEFI mode from gpt partitioned drives. (and you need newer UEFI hardware).Ubuntu can boot from gpt with either BIOS or UEFI but with BIOS you must have a 1 or 2MB unformatted partition with the bios_grub flag for BIOS boot or a FAT32 formatted partition as the ESP - efi system partition.Probably best to fully backup and reinstall if you have newer UEFI hardware.I started converting to gpt years ago when I still had XP. But XP was on MBR drive with Ubuntu on gpt drive.Converting to or from GPThttp://www.rodsbooks.com/gdisk/mbr...

Hi Community:I upgraded my wife's laptop from 14.04 to 16.04 today. She has an exteal 24" monitor, and I set it up with the "Displays" on "System Settings."I was successful in getting 16.04 to detect the 24" monitor. However, the mouse cursor wonders from the 24" monitor to the laptop monitor. How do I restrict the cursor to stay on the 24" monitor? Thanks,Old Jimma from the Old Country Let's block ads! بخوانید...

HP laptop, updated from Windows 7 x64 to Windows 10 (standard BIOS) with two 500 GB hard drives & 8 GB RAM wanting to dual boot Ubuntu 16.04.1 but ruing into issues with the disk 0 / sda already having four partitions and quickly ruing out of knowledge!I had previously deleted the HP Recovery partition on Disk 0 and shrunk C: volume so I had approximately 100 GB unallocated space for Ubuntu install but during Ubuntu install realized I still had the 3 partitions and so wasn't sure how to work around that with either drive. So I extended the C: volume and removed the 100 GB unallocated space until I could figure out what and how to setup. Here is where I'm at in Ubuntu install when have the ...

I am plaing to move back to Ubuntu (16.04) from OSX Mavericks on a Hackintosh (a HP 4540s). I have one disk ruing OSX and a separate disk for Ubuntu. My Users directory resides on a third disk, a usb disk, and has been configured to hfsplus non-joualled, and a test installation of Ubuntu loads the usb disk at startup though not as the /home directory. For the sake of those who may not know, Users in OSX is the equivalent of /home in Ubuntu.I'm now ready to try a live installation of Ubuntu, and I'd appreciate any advice i can get. I want to mount the Users directory (it is a partition on the usb disk) as /home. I don't know how easy it would be to make the usb disk dedicated to Users. (Haven...

So I had a crappy 4:3 monitor with bad coers and a line, DVI hookup and I swapped it for a 16:10 one that looks much better, and of course everything was plug and play on the Windows 10 side. Trouble is, after Grub when I try to login to Ubuntu 16, I can't get anything out of the keyboard or mouse, with no other things changed. Anyone have any ideas?I tried unplugging and re-plugging them in while it's in the login screen, to no avail. Let's block ads! بخوانید...

I've been trying for hours to install the driver for my Edimax Wifi USB adapter, and I need to coect to my 5G inteet (the 2.4 discoects regularly and is atrociously slow).I have the Edimax AC450 EW-7711ULC, and I'm ruing Ubuntu 16.04. I've tried two methods to install the driver, both to no avail. At first, I tried installing using the official driver from the Edimax website (http://www.edimax.com/edimax/downloa...450/ew-7711ulc). I got a date-time error, which I resolved, but more and more errors occured when I used 'make', so I had to try a different method.I used ndiswrapper to install the driver for Windows. Ndiswrapper installed it and detected the adapter, but the adapter itself will no...

G'day,I have used LXLE 14.04 for a year or so with no problems and installed 16.04 as it was another LTS and have a couple of nagging problems.1/ if I select LXLE 16.04 from the grub menu the computer boots to a desktop, no worries but if I let Grub time out the computer goes through the process of booting and makes a Fanfare noise but the screen is black and unresponsive.2/ my screen save is causing a problem in as much as if the machine is unattended and the screen save kicks in moving the mouse of pressing enter results in a Garbled image with a big red button which means a re-boot is required.3/ I have my addresses on a USB stick but permission to read it is denied si I need to edit perm...

Hi, I have a complex configuration for my desktop. I have 3 monitors on a GTX970 and 2 on my Intel HD 3000 that's built into my CPU. I spent the better part of a week trying to figure out how to get it to work before almost giving up.I found out that if I leave the intel card disabled in Xorg something on the nvidia drivers, I think it's in nvidia-prime as everything breaks when I remove it, loads to output to it. It extends the display of my prime monitor (HDMI0-) to be wider and simply copies that extra area over to the intel monitors. Once I use xrandr to disable paing on that monitor all seems to be working great, except for Compiz. Compiz is blanking the two intel cards for reasons unkn...
