I am attempting to install a dependency for the ffmpeg packageThe dependency is libgnutls30 (version 3.5.3.2)The error is: Breaks existing package 'libgnutls-openssl27' dependency libgnutls30 (=3.4.10-4ubuntu1.1)Do I force install this specific dependency? If not, how do I get around this error? I caot install any other dependencies for ffmpeg, nor can I install the complete ffmpeg package, until I get this error resolved. Also, extracting the dependency file and manually installing this specific dependency, either by replacing version 3.4.10, or manually installing as an addition to version 3.4.10, does not work as I still get both the error message and unable to complete full installation ...

So I installed "Calibre" -- the epub reader -- on my Xenial drive and noticed right away that the icons on my top-panel & my desktop were suddenly all-white with a red "X" on them.I re-booted, and the login screen was black (background image totally not there), but the useame & password boxes still appeared, so at least I could log in.The second I was logged in, although I could see that my startup programs had loaded, instantly the entire screen on both my monitors did this whole BLINK-BLINK-BLINK-BLINK thing and just kept up like that. So I can't use my 16.04 system and am posting this from my 14.04 drive.I installed Calibre according to the instructions on its download page here. ...

I had install lubuntu into an old laptop and all works fine.Happens that i want to add Lumina Desktop as i think it is what LXDE should have been, and, given that the BSD developers only offers it for 64 bit systems, i had to pull the sources and the dependences and build it in my own.The Lumina website, at https://lumina-desktop.org/get-lumina/?lang=en , tells this:"Building Lumina from source on Debian/Ubuntu/Linux MintTo build the Lumian desktop from source code on any members of the Debian, Ubuntu or Linux Mint distribution (or their derivative distributions) please perform the following steps. Please note that older versions of Ubuntu (14.04 and earlier) do not ship with mode versions of...

Hi,I thought ubuntu-14.04.5-desktop-amd64.iso can be used by usb UEFI installation, I copied the iso to a usb stick:$ sudo dd if=/tmp/ubuntu-14.04.5-desktop-amd64.iso of=/dev/sdc bs=1MPlugged it into a new Dell 11 3000 laptop, the bios boot option list pointed UEFI (the only option), but it could not detect the usb iso, it went to the Windows 10 straight away, what I could be missing here? The files copied to usb stick seems fine when I checked by mount:/dev/sdc1 on /tmp/usb type iso9660 (rw)$ ls usb$ ls usbautorun.inf EFI pics ubuntuboot install pool wubi.execasper isolinux preseeddists md5sum.txt README.diskdefinesAppreciate any clues.Thank you.Kind regards,- j Let's block ads! بخوانید...

Installed Ubuntu last night and have spent the last 10 hours today trying to get my old adapter working, alas I have given up. Does anybody know of a adapter that will just install and work without having to fiddle with anything? This seems to be the closest I have found, but it only mentions 15.10.My last attempt at solving my previous adapter can be found here, if you feel like helping that way.Thanks. Greetings all:I just upgraded Ubuntu from 14.04 to 16.04, my system is as follows:product: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-3110M CPU @ 2.40GHzvendor: Intel Corp.physical id: 1bus info: cpu@0size: 1238MHzcapacity: 2400MHzwidth: 64 bitsAfter the upgrade I got an "shim-signed" error, and also the boot time is higher than 14.04, how or what adjustment can I do to adjust the icon size? Please note that not all icon size increased, only some of them, I tried to resize the icon, the it did not work (when tried to decrease, it changed the icon to a red cross instead of smaller icons).ps: the shim-signed error was fixed by using the following instructions:sudo apt-get purge grub*sudo apt-get install grub-efisud...

Yes, instead of starting with Ubuntu start with something like Lubuntu or Xubuntu so that you aren't (basically) forced to keep parts of Unity around for things to work. Also, I wouldn't log in a GUI if it's going to get purged, instead use Ctrl-Alt-F1 (or through Ctrl-Alt-F6) to get into a console / terminal-only login from which you can purge GUI-related stuff and install Trinity without worrying about what happens to your logged-in session Let's block ads! بخوانید...

This is a pretty baffling issue, and I've had no luck Googling it, so I apologize in advance if there happen to be forum posts on the subject - I haven't been able to find them.I'm working off of a new install of Kubuntu 16.04.1 that is currently less than 8 hours old, and the issue is that KDE Plasma Desktop has these strange artifacts that appear in pop-up fields, text entry fields, or other areas. Here's an example when right-clicking on the desktop:This also occurs on text entry, so random artifacts will appear and obfuscate text that I'm in the process of typing, along with other assorted nuisances. I wouldn't be too conceed with this bug, if it weren't so hard to track down and so ubiq...
