I installed only ubuntu 14.04 system on my computer (4T disk). As something wrong happened with the power supply, I cannot enter into the system when I restart the system.It prompt " No partition active Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key".I tried to fix by "lilo" and "boot-repair" tool, but it still not work.The "boot-repair" retued info is post in http://paste.ubuntu.com/23100635/Thanks in advance for your kind help. So I installed "Calibre" -- the epub reader -- on my Xenial drive and noticed right away that the icons on my top-panel & my desktop were suddenly all-white with a red "X" on them.I re-booted, and the login screen was black (background image totally not there), but the useame & password boxes still appeared, so at least I could log in.The second I was logged in, although I could see that my startup programs had loaded, instantly the entire screen on both my monitors did this whole BLINK-BLINK-BLINK-BLINK thing and just kept up like that. So I can't use my 16.04 system and am posting this from my 14.04 drive.I installed Calibre according to the instructions on its download page here. Hi,I thought ubuntu-14.04.5-desktop-amd64.iso can be used by usb UEFI installation, I copied the iso to a usb stick:$ sudo dd if=/tmp/ubuntu-14.04.5-desktop-amd64.iso of=/dev/sdc bs=1MPlugged it into a new Dell 11 3000 laptop, the bios boot option list pointed UEFI (the only option), but it could not detect the usb iso, it went to the Windows 10 straight away, what I could be missing here? Hello there, I work in a lab with 13 PCs, 12 of them running Lubuntu and the last one running Ubuntu. Recently I dicided to update these systems so I did update 2 of them (the Ubuntu and one of the Lubuntu, I've used apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade). Since then the Lubuntu and the Ubuntu that I have updated are freezing randomly (the PC freezes and I have to restart it using the power button of the case), I can't find any particular reason that would lead these PCs to freeze, they have 4GBs of RAM (Lubuntu) and 8GBs of RAM (Ubuntu) and run all the time with more than 2,5GB free (the Lubuntu run most of times with over than 80% of CPU utilization, though). Hi,i have on my laptop Kubuntu since v14.04 and upgrade it to v16.04.Under ubuntu 14.04 and later 15.10 i had the standard saving energy tool for laptops and my computer was very quite and sometimes fan run high do to workload (which was normal).Since i upgrade it to 16.04, my CPU or Graphic fan runs at 100% (it seems at least based on the noise level) even if i do nothing and that laptop is on login screen.my CPU range is about 68C to 83-84C degrees max.For an unknown reason FAN runs at max and i dislike it especially when i do not require anything from it.Some people told me that room where i was was hot or that it is normal in summer.... the problem is that even in a room at 20C degrees in cold weather (around 17C degrees outside) laptop has the same behavior.Therefore problem must be somewhere else.
