Hallo Everyone,I am trying to install a Canon Pixma MG5750 for a friend and have discovered a strange thing ...We both have identical installations of Lubuntu (I installed for him) but my installation contains the driver for this printer but his does not.My suspicion is that, at some time, I have installed a bundle of "extra printers".Does such a thing exist? Maybe available via Synaptic?Any tips would be a great help because Canon doesn't seem to support Linux with this printer (or am I wrong?)Many thanks,Alan Let's block ads! بخوانید...

Hello. My friend has Ubuntu, the previous LTS, installed on her Asus EEE PC 1000H laptop. She is considering to upgrade to Xenial Xerus. Are there any guarantees if the upgrade succeeds, and whether it works well enough? The current LTS Ubuntu works on the laptop, it is really slow but works. The laptop has 2 GB RAM, 120 GB Kingston SSD, GPU is probably Intel GMA.Has anybody else experiences on ruing Xenial Xerus on EEE PC 1000H?What are the possible problems one should expect when upgrading and after the upgrade (if it succeeds)? Hello.Am a Linux novice. Performed an on-line update from 14.04 to 16.04 on my laptop which is an Asus Ultrabook. It has an 1T SSD and is dual-boot with Windows 8.1 via grub. Have done the same upgrade on my Intel i7 desktop without issue. It however DOES NOT have an SSD.During boot, there are errors reported that I caot decipher and, I believe, has to do with Ubuntu recognizing my SSD (sd9?). It is a Corsair SSD. During boot it performs some sort of disk diag that runs for 1m 50s? Sometimes it won't boot at all and I have to do the three-finger-salute (control-alt-delete).Have a copy of my dmsg file and have attached it... (after I looked up where to find it)Again. It's an Asus Ultrabook S5...

But I never had to deal with this kind of issue. Because all of my computers was perfectly compatible with GNU/Linux distros. Sorry about that.1- On touchpad, Multitouch doesn't work.2- On FN keys, brightness control doesn't work3- Is there a tablet mode for Ubuntu ? Let's block ads! بخوانید...

I recently purchased an ASUS USB-N13 Wi-fi adapter for my desktop ruing Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty 64x. I installed the driver using the instructions given in this post http://askubuntu.com/questions/16862...reless-adapter downloading the correct Linux driver from Realtek and also installed the fixes suggested in this post http://askubuntu.com/questions/45675...h-ubuntu-14-04.When plugged in, my network is recognised,http://www.nodular-prurigo.org.uk/images/network1.jpegbut I caot coect any program (Firefox, Chrome, Filezilla etc.) to the inteet. Firefox just gives me this. I have then to use a wired coection which is what I want to get rid of.http://www.nodular-prurigo.org.uk/images/network2.jpegl...

Answer is maybe.Depends on hardware.More likely a probable for graphics than for sound. It's very rare you would need sound drivers beyond those already installed. But if the system works out of the box then you probably don'y need to do anything about drivers.Linux has builtin drivers that support a wide variety of hardware. But if you feel performance lacks then you might look into Ubuntu driver section in the program Software and Updates >> Additional Drivers. If there are any known drivers that are not part of the default install available for your current hardware using your current system. They will be listed and installable from here. Hello, my mouse is a 'Corsair Katar', and supports adjustable DPI, a light which can flash at different intervals ( so fancy ) and that's about it. Unfortunately, I can only configure it on Windows, and the configuration does not save when I switch over to Linux. The mouse works fine ( DPI is adjustable via the button, basic mouse operations work, but profiles are not editable ). I plan on trying to develop a driver for the device to make it work correctly. From what I've read so far I need to write the driver, and an application to control the mouse ( adjust the DPI profiles, etc. ). I don't have any prior experience with developing drivers, I plaed on writing a basic driver and using it to...

According to reviews on Newegg and Amazon, I should download the AMD chipset driver/drivers directly from AMD, because of many owners having trouble with these drivers obtained from anywhere else. One review said it can be found on the AMD drivers page under a "option downloads" link, but I do not see any such thing. The manual driver search (where I can select OS as Ubuntu) only seems to give proprietary graphics drivers, and down at the bottom-right of the main drivers page is a link to the "AMD chipset, AHCI, USB 3.0 and RAID drivers", but it only shows for Windows.Anyone know which I need? I also dual boot Windows 10 and use the Nvidia card via Optimus without problems there. When I use the Additional Drivers application to switch to Nvidia 361.42 (proprietary, tested), after a restart:- The login screen appears- Attempting to login causes the screen to flash, an error message on a text console is displayed for a few milliseconds, and I am retued to the login screen. How would we go about troubleshooting this issue? Thanks! Hello all! Hopefully the forums will let me post - I've been having trouble recently.Well, this community has been so helpful and knowledgeable that I thought I'd put this problem I'm having on the table to seewhat you all can come up with.It is a graphics and/or hardware acceleration problem.I honestly don't know what the exact problem is, but I know that I can't run anything that requires 3d graphics rendering, such as games that I would like to play.I put this in Debian because I'm ruing Kali 2.0 Rolling release distribution, which is based on Debian wheezy/jessie.Here is some output from my terminal regarding the issue: Code: root@KandA: ~# glxinfo name of display: :0 Error: couldn't f...

Since keel version 4.4.0-20, EFI_SECURE_BOOT_SIG_ENFORCE has been enabled--meaning that all keel modules must be signed by a trusted key. Most modules are shipped already signed by a trusted key, however any modules that need to be build by the user themselves (ie. using dkms) are unsigned and will fail to load with a message similar to the one below. Code: modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'vboxdrv': Required key not available This is a problem for me because both virtualbox, and the proprietary NVIDIA drivers fall into the category of modules that need to be built by the user. There are two possible solutions for this problem.Disable secure bootEither in the bios or using Code: sudo mo...

Good evening forum, I just purchased the Asus 2 in 1 13.3 Touchscreen Intel Core i3 6gb Memory 500GB Hard Drive-Black Hairline Laptop and I want to dual boot Windows 10 with Ubuntu. I have done this for years but this is my first (I Think you call it) UEFI and I have seen videos of installations and they all are confusing. I have Ubuntu on a flashdrive already and I used Unetbootin.Question 1. Is using Unetbootin ok or do I have to use something else?Question 2. Do I have to go and resize the partition in windows by freeing up space first or can I do it the old Fashioned way by just booting up from the flashdrive in Ubuntu and just choose Install alongside Windows and size it from there?Ques...

Hi,I bought a new ASUS Zenbook UX501VW with Intel card + Nvidia Geforce 960M. First what I did after installation was set grub option to nouveau.modeset=0 because fans were really loud. I guess that this tu off my nvidia card. Then plugged exteal monitor via HDMI. Everything worked perfect, could do whatever want in KDE display settings, both screens, only one etc. So I'm pretty sure that HDMI port is coected to the Intel card. Then installed latest nvidia drivers (nvidia-367), nvidia-prime and nvidia-settings. Changed grub options (recommended for optimus) to: Code: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash pcie_aspm=force drm.vblankoffdelay=1 i915.semaphores=1" Here are my experiences wit...

I was browsing the Inteet in chrome when my system froze, completely unresponsive. I waited an hour and checked back and it was still frozen, so I had to just power down by holding the power button. Ever since, my WiFi is gone. When I click on the little WiFi icon in the system bar up top, the "Enable Wifi" option is gone, and obviously no WiFi names are present. A proper restart does nothing, and I have no way to get a wired coection established.Edit: Code: rfkill list all outputs nothing. Code: dmesg | grep iwl outputs nothing. Code: lsmod | grep iwl outputs nothing. Code: lspci outputs Code: 3a:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Device 9d21 (rev 21) . And Code: su...
